Website Translation

Sell to a broader audience:
translate your Web site and brochures!

Website translation is one of the most cost effective methods of expanding your markets rapidly. One of the biggest challenges this creates is getting your site truly globalised or globalized depending on where you are.

  • Over 100 million people access the Internet in a language other than English

  • Over 50% of Web Users speak a native language other than English

  • Web users are four times more likely to purchase from a site that communicates in the customer's language

  • Visitors stay for twice as long (Site stickiness is doubled)

Many companies and organisations already realise the immense benefits of translating their website. The problem is that many translation agencies are unable to deal with the variety of formats and the ongoing administration of changing content. This often leads to the developer employed by the organisation having their time increasingly used for copying and pasting text so that it is in a format the agency can deal with.

Ferdosi Language Services removes the painstaking need to copy and paste text to and from your site to allow translators to work on it. We are able to take source files such as HTML, XHTML, XML, Java and many more, protecting all of your coding through the translation cycle and returning in a fully working format.

Website translation will be carried out by qualified translators in your given field who will have experience of marketing to ensure that all of your key messages are not lost in the process.

How do I get the files to you?

There are three options for getting the files to us and they include sending us a zipped file by email, uploading to our FTP [file transfer protocol] server or giving us access to you site with login and password. Alternatively you may send all the files on a CD-ROM.

How will I receive the finished site?

We can return translated material in exactly the same manner as we received it.

How would you handle the graphical elements of the web site?

Any graphics that have a textual content will have that text translated and a localised version of the graphic would then be created. The complexity of the original graphic will determine the complexity of this task. Some graphics may have to be re-sized to allow them to accommodate the new language. For instance, replacing English text with German text may require the graphics to be enlarged as the German text will be up to 30% longer than the English.

Can you handle CGI scripts, Java scripts, ASP files, databases etc?

With most of these files our translators, working in co-operation with our technical staff will translate only the appropriate text strings. This will ensure that the scripts remain bug-free.

How would you handle Shockwave Flash files?

To localise these files, we would need to be sent the source files used to create the flash file. The flash file, which would be on the web site, cannot be amended. With the source file we can translate any text and then create a new flash file for the translated web site.

Do you use Translation Memory when translating web sites?

We use the Trados Translation Memory tool with many of our translations, this tool can be utilised when translating HTML files thus ensuring that the benefits
(speed, accuracy, consistency) from using TM tools are available to our web site customers.

What about different character sets? For instance Greek, Ukrainian, Amharic or Chinese?

Providing the required character sets can be recognised by the browsers and operating systems with the appropriate fonts, there should be no trouble. The web site coding can be adjusted to instruct the browser to default to the correct character set.
